My room growing up was, for all intents and purposes, on the back porch. I loved it, but I had no AC, no heat. I used a fan in the summer, and a space heater in the winter.
I guess that's why cold doesn't bother me.
Anyway, this year, even though we have central heat and air, I bought myself a window unit.
I love it. I don't know why I waited so long to get one.

DD sleeps in the basement family room too in the summer. When I had the ductless a/c installed she said she didn't want it in her bedroom. Fairly certain that was young teen defiance. However the condenser I had installed can handle two more units. I may have that done next year.
When I was a kid we didn't have ac either just the whole house fan in the attic and box style window fans, they were fine. On really hot nights mom would have us sip a bit of OJ, come to find out it had whiskey in it. Apparently she wanted to make us sleep so she didn't have to listen to us whining. Did I mention my parents had a window ac in their bedroom?
Lucky you!
We didn't even have the attic fan.
Story and a half, house.
Box fans. Yes.
Run to the basement.
Roger that.
Happily, heat waves, in northeast Ohio, didn't happen very often.
(Until I went up to see my Mom. Hotter than hell. Go figure?)
Back in the day, before a/c, we had
two round hassock fans - one in the
living room and one in our parents'
bedroom. During the day, Mother
would close the windows and draw
all the blinds. After the sun went
down, she'd open the windows and
blinds, and hope for some breeze.
One of my first purchases when I
got my first job was a two-direction
fan - intake or exhaust, depending
on which was cooler, inside or out.
Did you know that your ceiling fans
have a summer or winter setting?
Yep. One draws the room air up to
the ceiling (summer) and the other
sends the warm air down into the
room (winter). Check it out.

I knew that about ceiling fans. They work well.

I love ceiling fans. They make a huge difference in heating and cooling.

I have decided not to leave the board. Why let a few haters run me off and win? Since I came back I have been nothing but nice. Haven't said a cross word to anyone or complained about anyone. I have followed all the board rules. I have done nothing wrong. So I am staying. You can't kick me off for not liking me. And if you really don't like me that much don't read what I have to say. Scroll past me. Ignore me. If you want to read me and just go on the attack that's fine. Not going to argue back. I'm here to stay. At least for now. Deal with it.
Technically, I COULD. But I don't do that. Nor does FWM. If we did, you wouldn't have been able to get back on in the first place.
