One of my favorite wedding gifts was a LARGE wooden serving platter, suitable for a 24 pound turkey, or a large standing rib roast. The special feature was that it was slightly tilted, with 2 knobby feet on one side, and a deep well to catch any juices. I think it came from Williams Sonoma.
I am all about charcuterie boards! You can get some beautiful handmade ones on Etsy, and some of them personalized.
If you know she's not big on jewelry, don't do jewelry.
I don't like jewelry. Who it's from doesn't change that. I won't wear it.
Having been there, done that, and had a bad experience, I'd like to share what I would've liked. I would've liked: kitchen stuff, a simple meal out just the two of us (a welcome to the family, if you will), something I can use (for me that'd be a Walmart gift card), stuff like that. Above all, I most appreciate being asked if I can actually use whatever it is. It would've meant so much to me if my MIL had bothered to get to know what I like instead of trying to relive her own wedding when I was new to the family.
I think I've decided to write her a letter. Just tell her how I feel.
