Greetings, from the Frozen Tundra aka Texas!wink

Our power is still on. We still have to boil our water. But, at least we still have water. A lot of folks don't.cry

Now, 5 neighbors on our little stretch of the street have burst pipes. Praying that doesn't happen to us.

Wayne is off to work. Hoping Conor's car will start. Or. I will have to take him. (Hmmm...I wonder if my car will start. It's been sitting in the garage. I haven't gone anywhere since last Friday, I think. I might start it up, and back it out a bit, and let it run for a little while, just in case.)

Still not much food to be found. Happily, I have quite a bit in the freezer. And a good amount of canned goods. Running low on milk and half and half. Hoping a truck will make it to Kroger soon.

We only went down to 22 last night. Cloud cover helped us. Only going up to 31 today. So nothing is melting yet.

We should get above freezing tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

It looks like the Ohio Valley is going to get hit hard today. Praying my Mom doesn't lose power.

Other than looking after our pets, plus the birds and the squirrels, and boiling water...not much else is going on here.

How about with you?

I hope everyone is safe and warm! Try to have a good day!smile

We're under an ice storm currently. Snow to follow. We have a generator, so I'm not worried about power. I haven't checked the oil lately but other than the weekly 5 minute warm ups, it was only used once for a few hours so it should be good. We have food and I'm making some sourdough bread this morning. I stocked up on milk. You know you can freeze milk, right? Provided you have room in your freezer that is. It does take up valuable freezer real estate unless you put it in ziplock bags.

Good luck with the vehicles!

Good morning fwm , we had freezing temperatures and snow and ice as well, but we usually have it every winter, so we were prepared. I looked at the next weeks forecast for San Antonio since I have family down there and they are going to have temps in the 70’s next week, I hope your area does too.

Waiting for the kiddos to arrive, hope everyone has a great day.

FWM, I hope the cars start for y'all. It's tough if the antifreeze in the cars aren't set for the freezing temps. I generally have mine set to around -30F. But, in NEPA, we need it. LOL When I lived in NH, I had it set to -60F because the first winter I was there, temps stayed at -50F for a couple of months. UGH!

The storm has arrived. Started a couple hours ago and we now have a few inches. Plow was through the complex once already. It seems to be slowing now but "they" said it would going through tomorrow morning so, we shall see what we end up with. I'm just happy to be home, snug and warm, sippin my cuppa and watching it fall. :)

Hope y'all stay safe and warm down there.

My car started! I backed it out, and let it run for ten minutes. I have to pick Paul up at work at 3.

I knew you could freeze milk, FNW. The problem is, stores are out. No trucks have come in to restock it.

Wayne did get 2 half gallons of chocolate milk at Costco yesterday. Along with some butter and some bird seed.

We have plenty of food. So we are fine.

Still boiling water. But, at least we have water!wink

I'm glad you have a generator! No power is no fun! Stay warm!smile

Woohoo!!! Happy dancin'!!! Glad it started.

Yes, I do have work tomorrow. I have to be there for 7 a.m. ugh! It's okay though, the Wrangler will get me there. Thanks!

For now, it seems to have stopped snowing. Only about two or three inches so far. I wonder if it'll start up again like they say it will.

Hi everyone! Glad everyone is okay through these storms!
Hint for all; to keep pipes from freezing, make sure every faucet is open enough for a steady drip. You will not have frozen pipes as long as water is moving through. Also open the door under each sink.
We are warming up as well. It’s 22 degrees today. That’s a major heat wave after so many nights in the -20’s.
So glad we preserve so much of our food! Also stocked up on powdered milk. Hey, in a pinch it works.
Catching up on laundry today. After conserving power I’m a bit behind lol.
Hope you all have a great day!

Good advice about the pipes, czechie! I remember as a kid growing up, Mom always let the faucets drip and opened the cabinet door(s) for the heat to get in. Always worked!!!

Believe me, my pretties...I remember that too! (Spent my first 36 years in northeast Ohio, before moving to Texas!)wink

Sadly, in Texas, with as poorly as they insulate houses...even letting your faucets drip, won't always save you. (I was reading the Nextdoor website, and even a plumber in our neighborhood had burst pipes in his home.cry He did everything right...and sadly for him, he still ended up with a mess.)

Another trick we remembered...which saved us from having food spoil in the fridge, when the power was out for 15 hours...we filled gallon sized ziplock bags with snow, and put several of them in the fridge. That kept everything nice and cool!smile

I have heard about the dripping and cabinet doors, too, I just never think of it. Thanks for the reminder!

Glad your car started, FWM! Great tip about the snow! I know I would also freeze water bottles when I knew a storm was coming. The more packed the freezer is the longer things will stay frozen, and the water bottles create nice "blocks" of ice.

As crazy as this might sound. Or, maybe it won't sound crazy, since you all know how much we love, and try to take good care of our fur babies.

Our biggest worry, when the power was out for such long stretches of time, was the fear that Jack's insulin would spoil in the fridge!

(We only found out he is diabetic, three weeks ago. We're getting better at giving him his shots. And he's being really good about it. But, that was our big fear!)

Call us crazy cat people!biggrin

But, we always try to do our best with the critters!wink

2020 was the year from Hell.

2021, Hell froze over !

Yep, it's snowing - again! We
expect 2-3", and temps down
in the 20's overnight. But then
it is supposed to get up to 40
tomorrow. That should help
with the melting of the snow
and ice.

FWM ~ if it is a multiple-shot
syringe, you only need to keep
insulin in the refrigerator after
it is used once.

My three "outside" kitties are
having the time of their lives!
They chase each other from
one end of the house to the
other, then dive under the bed
or the sofa, and pounce on our
feet as we pass by. I don't
know how they will feel about
being "outside kitties" once
the storm leaves the area.

No such luck, Momala. Bottle of insulin. Regular syringes. 2 units every 12 hours.

Sounds like your outdoor kitties became indoor kitties!biggrin
