In order to keep our home warm,

I've been making cookies - a lot

of cookies.

here is a recipe from the 1920's -

still fabulous !

MOTHER’S OATMEAL SKINNY COOKIES – 2/18/21 – DH LOVED !

½ # butter  1C sugar  ½C brown sugar  2C oatmeal  1t vanilla

350 oven  Melt butter & sugars in large saucepan,  Add vanilla

& oatmeal,  Drop by t (they spread a lot!) on greased cookie sheet.

Bake 10+ min.  Let cool before taking from sheet to cooling rack,

Super super thin !

Use 6 drops per pan.  They really spread a lot.  If you take

them off at 8-9 minutes, you can roll them around the

handle of a wooden spoon.

Those sound yummy, Momala!

I might bake those today. Might add some chocolate chips...since Wayne bought me a 4 1/2 pound bag!biggrin

I might toss in some ground pecans, too! Cause...well...why not?wink

I will let you know how they turn out!smile

My mother came across an old cookbook with handwritten notes and recipes from a great grandmother of mine. It was published in 1924. It's hard to believe it's almost 100 years old. There are some very interesting recipes inside. I can tell there wasn't wide spread use of modern day refrigerators or freezers back then by the way they preserve things. There is also a chapter on food for the ill, which is a lot of bone and meat parts broth. My #2 had a sore throat the other day and I gave him some bone broth I made from turkey bones and it cleared it right up. There's something to be said for the old recipes and "cures."

Argh! Adding the chocolate chips was a mistake!

Don't do it!wink

I'll try again, another day.

I think the pecans were fine. But, not the chocolate chips.

Live and learn!biggrin
