Well y'all, 2023 is on its last legs. Can't say I'll be sad to see it go. It's been a pest of a year for me. My grandma died in April. My mom died (completely unexpectedly, heart attack in the wee hours) in September. My dad disowned me (again) - he has issues, we've never had that great of a relationship. And, my dad and uncle got evicted cuz they could no longer pay the rent since they were down to only 2 out of 4 incomes for the house they were renting. So, 2023 can SHOO.

But, on the bright side, this is the year of milestone birthdays. I turned 40 back in February. DH turns 40 and DS turns 10 this month. It doesn't feel like 10 years since we've brought that baby home from the hospital but here we are! He says he wants to stay 9 but that's not how it works. I told him he needs to enjoy the last of the single digits cuz they quickly coming to an end.

How's everyone doing on their Christmas shopping?

We're about done. In laws are gonna be easy this year. They're purging stuff so we're thinking they don't want to acquire more so we're thinking we'll do gift cards to their favorite places then a couple whimsical things that can be consumed. We still need to get everyone's stockings but that's easy enough.

Anyhoo. Enjoy the last month of 2023, y'all!

So sorry to hear 2023 sucked for you, chef. 2022 was like that for me, but with #1 back home since January and doing well, it's been a good year for me.

How is gg, trudy? Are you working again? I just turned 60 and will be retiring in a few weeks. My plan is to redecorate the house after I Marie Kondo the place.

It’s sad to feel that way about a year, I felt the same about 2020 and the pandemic and it was still a better year than then 2023. Few good moments such as going to New York City with my daughter and grand girls plus the beach vacation with all my family, but went down hill this fall.

2023 was a heck of a lot better for me than 2022. Actually, 2020-2022 sucked. I'm sorry it was a bad year for so many here. Let's all hope 2024 is better for all of us!

2023 is going out with a bang. My dad is back in the hospital. His blood sugar is well above 600 and he has a blood clot blocking one of the veins going to his brain. He was refusing to be admitted to the hospital but my uncle compelled him so he got admitted. Oy. Everyone has tried to get him to see the light on his health and he refuses. At this point, I'm numb to it. As his nurse says - Sometimes, we just have to accept that our parents make decisions not in their best interest. He wants to join his honey pie in death and, sadly, he may get his wish sooner than later.

In happier news, DS turned 10 a couple days ago. Double digits! Wow! He got all sorts of goodies. I had a $10 gift card for Build a Bear that had been sitting in my purse for a few years so we went there as part of his birthday and he made himself a Sonic. I made him a money cake (the kind with money inside the cake). He was awestruck when he pulled the stick and the money started spooling out of the cake!

Finally got the back wiper blade on my SUV fixed. They didn't have the part since the auto workers were on strike but it finally came in. Best part? The repair ended up being half the cost of the estimate. Yay!

I appreciate it but please know I'm ok. I don't want to go into all the details but suffice to say that my dad and I are like oil and water. I don't hate him. I do, however, have firm boundaries because my husband and son come first.
