Wow! Busy February! That's December for us. My mom's, husband's, and son's birthdays are all in December plus son's birthday party with his friends and Christmas. Sadly, my mom died in September 2023 so December was a little less busy last year but tinged with sadness.

Happy Birthday to them!

Wow! I know time passes but it's hard to believe that some of the kids here are grown or almost grown.

Is she enjoying college?

In three days, I'll celebrate
81 years on this earth !

DH is calling around to find
a place that serves prime rib
on Thursday, since that is my
favorite. You'd think, that in
the middle of cattle country,
you could find prime rib any-
where ! Nope. Rib Eye
steaks? Sure, no problem.
But they are not the same
as a prime rib roast.

Trail Riders Cafe, in the next
town over, used to have prime
rib every Friday, and it was
FABULOUS ! Unfortunately,
covid did them in - no wait staff,
half of the cooks, and the
customers didn't give them a break.

I can cook a perfect prime rib
(courtesy of Cook's Magazine),
but on my birthday, I want someone
else to cook for me, and I don't
have to clean up ! ! !

Well, my birthday this year will be a
day to remember. Wednesday, the
car died while I was at the Wound
Care Clinic (lymphedema). AAA
came and jumped us, and we drove
to Auto Zone, where we had purchased
a new battery in September. They
replaced it with no problem at all.
Thursday, my birthday, I drove in to
San Antonio to pick up my friend who
helps me two hours a week. Drove to
their house, engine still on as they loaded
up, and when I put it in drive, it died again!
Her husband has all the tools and gauges
for auto work, and it took him over an hour
to get it started. We drove about 3/4 of a
mile, and bam! It died again. Fortunately,
we were able to coast into the driveway of
an Exxon station, and they pushed it to the
curb at the edge of the parking lot.

AAA came (90 minutes) with a brand new
flatbed. It's a good thing my friend and her
husband were there to help hoist me into
the cab - the floor of the cab was 6 feet off
the ground, with only two steps. We
arrived at my mechanic's shop, and
fortunately they were still open. The
mechanics brought out two cable spools,
and they created two manageable steps
for me to get out of the cab.

My mechanic, whom I've used for 20 years,
still hasn't been able to diagnose (and fix)
what the problem is.

Getting old is NOT for sissies ! !

I’m so sorry you were having car trouble, especially on your birthday. Hopefully you got to have prime rib

 This!

Hopefully your mechanic gets the issue figured out soon. I wish PQB was still around. I remember she is a mechanic.

Could it be the alternator or something in the transmission maybe? A spark plug? Fuel pump?

My mechanic has had the
car for 3 weeks, and they
still can't get it to run.
They've ordered a part from
Detroit - hopefully this will
be the cure.

Leap Day!

Anybody have a Leap Day baby in their families?

I thought it'd be neat to get married on Leap Day so it's extra special when the actual date rolls around but didn't care so much that I was willing to wait for a date.

Well. My goodness. My mechanic
has had my Focus for 4 weeks!
They finally got in touch with Michigan,
and ordered a VERY special part. It
is supposed to arrive March 5.

In the meantime, my sweetheart of a
honey looked on the internet, and found
a vehicle he thought would be good for
us - a 2024 Chevy Equinox. He called
the local dealer, spoke with a lovely
young lady, and asked to see the E the
next day, explaining that we were both
handicapped. We drove to our appoint-
ment, and there it was, in all its glorious
red splendor, right in front the the handi-
cap parking slots. The first thing I did
was ask DH to get in, and he did so, with
absolutely no problem ! I then got in (yeah,
a little problem, but nothing I couldn't work
with). The young lady sat next to me and
explained all the bells and whistles, and off
we took for a demo ride, including (at my
request) a panic stop. Boy, did it hold the
road! ! !

We got back to the dealership, and DH and
I looked at each other, and told the young lady
- "We'll take it. Please have all the paperwork
ready for us tomorrow - no financing, cash on
the barrel. We'll be there at around 11:00."
That must have been the easiest sale the
young lady ever had!

We had a neighbor drive us to the Chevy shop,
and there she was - right in front, under the
canopy, waiting for us! And one of the best
things was that she now had a FULL tank of gas! ! !

We've had her for about two weeks, and 1500
miles! The highway mileage is supposed to be
25+, but I'm getting 30+!

Ford in Michigan finally found
out what went wrong with the
Focus - a very unusual problem
that they almost never have.
They sent a "module" and asked
my mechanic to send them back
the faulty one, so they could
disassemble it, and find out why
it went bad. At one point, when
my mechanic moved the module,
that car started - all on its own !

We've now cleaned it out, and
DH will post it on Craig's List -
we don't need an extra vehicle,,
with insurance, tags, etc.

I bet it feels good to have the mystery solved!
